Break!

I’m really excited to for our second spring break. I have SO MUCH to do, but it will still be fun. I’m spending the first half with friends and family at home, Thursday I’m going to NYC to visit Grad Schools (Which I still have to plan out more), and Saturday I’m going to a concert to see the Portland Symphony Orchestra with my girlfriend. I’m excited, because they’re playing an Astor Piazzolla piece. He is an amazing composer. He mixes texture with tango in a beautifully exotic way. It’s amazing.
I’m staying with Meg in New York. It should be a lot of fun. I have books to read on the bus ride down and back, as well as my trusty MP3 player. Hopefully the bus ride will go quick and I won’t get lost (we’ll see). The only visit I’ve set up so far is Juilliard (my “Yeah-right” school). I really need to get on that.
Except that I’m not done here yet. I have to figure out this whole warning thing. I got a warning for having a headlight out, so I replaced the headlight, but now they need a signature. And, I’ve had to record like five or six events in the past two weeks, all of which need mixing down and need to be put on CD’s which I don’t have. People just expect me to have blank CD’s by magic I guess.
To top it all off, I need to compose a one minute orchestra piece in two weeks. Sounds easy enough, but I have barely figured out my style in chamber music, let alone orchestral. I’m pretty sure that what I would like to do is too complex for a community orchestra, so I’m stuck somewhere between too hard and too un-original. I didn’t think this would be this hard. We’ll see what I come up with. Maybe I’ll get a recording of it and put it up here. Anyway, I’m off to enjoy the sun.

  • Hey!

Awesome blog. I myself enjoy keeping track of things as well. Sounds like you’re having an amazing semester composing! Just thought I’d mention some schools that you may/may not have thought of…

    Berklee (duh)
    University of Indiana at Bloomington
    New England Conservatory
    UMass Amherst
Also look at Texas….the have some monster music programs, but it may be mostly instrumental

Since you delve into crazy theory while writing, it seems as if you probably have a good grasp on it…but if not, make sure you do for some of these schools. They are going to test you up the ass. ;D

And of course let me know what you decide on!
    Good luck. :D
